Janet Hayslip Streenz, Master Dance Instructor, Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who
Janet Streenz noted for accomplishment in dance instruction

/Performing Arts News Articles/ -- BLOOMINGTON, IL, June 16, 2011, Janet Hayslip Streenz, Master Dance Instructor and Teacher at Twin Cities School of Dance, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in dance education.

Named Cambridge Publishing's 2010 Professional of the Year in Dance Education, Janet Streenz has 54 years of experience in the field. She now thrives in her 24th year with Twin Cities School of Dance, where she draws upon her expertise to instruct tap, ballet and jazz dance, choreograph and teach dance numbers to classes participating in annual shows, and implement her creative visions. In addition to her areas of specialty, Twin Cities offers classical ballet, Latin jazz, modern dance and civic ballet.

In an exclusive interview with Cambridge, Ms. Streenz discussed her rise into dance instruction. A dance enthusiast from an early age, she started teaching neighborhood children in the summer after her freshman year of high school. She continued throughout her sophomore year, charged with the instruction of about 35 students, and established a formal business in her junior year. Ms. Streenz gave her first recital at the age of 17 with 75 students and managed to double her enrollment during her senior year in 1958. Her success snowballed from there and, in 1960, she was able to build a small studio. A bank soon offered to buy her property and she was able to renovate a new space and multiply her enrollment to approximately 450 students, as well as buy the adjacent building to run extra classes.

One again expanding her studio, Ms. Streenz hired former students to teach in the adjoining studio. In 1986, she gave her business to a nonprofit organization called Twin Cities Ballet, and they renamed the school Twin Cities School of Dance. She remained a part-time teacher on their faculty for about four years while simultaneously pursuing a vastly different field—dental assistance. Ms. Streenz managed two careers for three years before ultimately deciding to return full-time to the field of music and dance, selling pianos and organs at a music store while continuing to teach at Twin Cities. In 1991, she decided to take a position as a Master Dance Instructor at Twin Cities.

To date, Ms. Streenz has instructed many generations of Twin Cities' residents. She is the founder and director of the International Show Troupe, which has performed in five European countries including Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France. She continues to expand her knowledge of dance by annually attending the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters' training school and convention. Over the span of her illustrious career, Ms. Streenz has been honored to teach several times on the faculty at Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. She has also taught at Wisconsin Dance Masters.

For her many accomplishments, Ms. Streenz attributes her success to her common sense, hard work and learning skills, as well as her ability to develop a suitable syllabus for students. She notes her love for dance instruction as the driving force behind her career and cites establishing her own business as the highlight of her career. Moving forward, she will seek to continue teaching dance. Ms. Streenz is educated in political science, sociology, philosophy of education, art history, as well as guitar performance. She holds a master's certification from the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, a certification in functional anatomy and anatomy, a certification in French, conversational French, German and Mandarin, and certifications in folk social, square dance, social dance and modern dance.
