Theatre fans can experience a dramatisation of Judy Garland's twilight years in the acclaimed play End of the Rainbow in Birmingham next month.
BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, September 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Peter Quilter's critically acclaimed play End of the Rainbow, based on the life of Judy Garland, will be coming to the Birmingham Hippodrome in October 2011.
The powerful production will be performed at the theatre between October 17th and 22nd after taking London's West End by storm, thanks to its magnetic central performance by Tracie Bennett as the Hollywood icon.
End of the Rainbow is set in 1968, a year before Garland's death, as the celebrated actress attempts to revive her career with a gruelling series of concerts, while battling alcohol and drug addiction.
The show is a compelling portrait of a tough, sharp-witted but tragic figure and features performances of some of the star's best-known songs, including The Trolley Song and the iconic Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Bennett has won numerous standing ovations for her portrayal of Garland and was shortlisted for an Olivier Award, one of four nominations received by the production.
Performances begin at 19:30 BST, with matinee showings also held on the Wednesday and Saturday.
The cheapest tickets can be purchased for GBP13.50, while the costliest pass for Saturday evening comes to GBP32.50.
Theatre-goers can choose from a large selection of hotels in Birmingham at LateRooms.com, such as the Railway Guest House.
