Roger McGough's adaptation of Moliere's Tartuffe is to be staged at the Playhouse in September.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND, July 20, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Liverpool is readying itself to stage Roger McGough's acclaimed adaptation of Tartuffe for another run, after its success in 2008.

The city was Capital of Culture that year and the production was roundly praised by critics for how entertaining and funny it was.

Audiences can relive the humour of the story by heading to the Playhouse between September 8th and 17th, with Joe Alessi, Eithne Browne, Simon Coates and Anabelle Dowler set to star.

The play by Moliere tells the tale of an imposter called Tartuffe, who lives in the home of the wealthy merchant Orgon.

It was written in 1664 by the French writer, whose real name was Jean-Baptiste Poquelin.

"The family smells a rat and amid the frills and frivolity of 17th century society, they hatch a cunning plan to outwit the wily deceiver before he brings their house crashing down," explained the organisers in a statement.

Admission costs between GBP12 and GBP21, with performances beginning at 19:30 BST from Monday to Saturday and matinees available on September 10th, 15th and 17th.

Theatre-goers will find a huge range of Liverpool hotels at LateRooms.com, including the Adelphi Hotel Liverpool.
