LateRooms.com - Take in Still Life with Flowers in Bilbao
The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao is currently showcasing Still Life with Flowers by Juan de Arellano.
BILBAO, SPAIN, January 27, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Still Life with Flowers has gone on display at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and gives travellers the opportunity to appreciate one of Spain's most celebrated painters.
Hotel Bilbao guests can see the picture by Juan de Arellano at the acclaimed arts space until April 3rd 2011, as it has been borrowed from the Santander Collection in Madrid.
De Arellano was widely regarded as one of the finest still life painters of the 17th century, with the artist spending almost all of his time creating such images above all other styles from 1645 onwards, according to the organisers.
They explained that Still Life with Flowers, painted between 1650 and 1660, actually offers a departure from his more traditional pictures, which tended to feature just one bouquet.
"Here he shows three, arranged in a deftly balanced triangle, along the lines of the successful models introduced by Flemish artists such as Daniel Seghers," the venue noted.
Anyone who wants to dig a little deeper into De Arellano's career as an artist could seek out the 1671 painting Small Basket of Flowers - also on display at the venue - to see how his style changed over time.
The arts space is open between 10:00 and 20:00 local time from Tuesdays to Sundays, with admission costing EUR6 (GBP5.15).
