Anna Bolena will be performed in Barcelona in 2011 and tells the moving story of Henry VIII's second wife.
BARCELONA, SPAIN, January 05, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Opera fans staying in Barcelona in the new year could set aside an evening to see a production of Anna Bolena in the Catalan city.
The piece was first performed in Milan in 1830 and was acted out in 1847 at the Gran Teatre de Liceu, where it will be staged again from January 20th to March 5th 2011.
Attendees can expect a passionate and moving portrayal of the life of Anne Boleyn, with the music written by Gaetano Donizetti and a libretto penned by Felice Romani.
"The plots tells how the cruel Henry VIII had Anne Boleyn beheaded in order to marry Jane Seymour," explained the venue.
Boleyn was the second of the infamous monarch's six wives, with Seymour becoming the third.
Visitors from the cheap hotels Barcelona has to offer who want to dig a little deeper could arrive 45 minutes before the performance and enjoy a special information session in the foyer of the building.
A spokesperson for the theatre highlighted the final scene as being especially exquisite and said the libretto by Romani boasts "subtle characterisation" and "dramatic efficacy".
The show lasts for approximately three hours and 15 minutes, with most performances beginning at 20:00 local time.
Admissions starts from EUR7.50 (GBP6.40) and tickets can be purchased online or at the box office.
