Joshua Pierce Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
Joshua Pierce made music history by becoming the first Western pianist ever to perform and record John Cage's sonatas and interludes for prepared piano in post-soviet Russia.
NEW YORK, NY, September 8, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joshua Pierce, Artist, Professor for the Music Conservatory of Westchester, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in music education.
One of today's most dynamic pianists, Grammy-nominated Joshua Pierce is at the top of his pianistic form. From his solo and duo-piano world premiere recordings, to his concerts around the world, he also participated in a 30-year collaboration with the pianist Dorothy Jonas, as part of the two-piano team, Pierce & Jonas. This resulted in numerous prize winning first recordings and acclaimed performances, including a command performance for Britain's Royal Family. Utilizing 41 years of professional experience, he specializes in performing classical, romantic and contemporary music. Currently a professor for the Music Conservatory of Westchester, he teaches applied piano and works with accomplished artists and develops talent in young individuals in all stages of musical development. Having followed his family's lead into the field, he attributes his success to his hard work, diligence and perseverance.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Pierce had garnered outstanding reviews from a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Gramophone, The Strad, London Telegraph, Billboard and dozens more. His career has included solo performances and appearances with a long list of major international orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestra in Great Britain, as well as the Berlin Radio Symphony, Moscow State Philharmonic, Czech National Symphony, Slovak Philharmonic, Luxembourg Philharmonic, RAI Orchestra of Rome, and Capella Istropolitana in Slovakia. In the United States, he has appeared with the New York Philharmonia Virtuosi, Utah Symphony, Missouri Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta and at most of the major concert venues and series in New York.
Mr. Piece has also performed extensively for public radio and television in the United States as well as in Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Korea, Russia, Italy, England, and South America.
Mr. Pierce received his Master of Science Degree in Concert Performance and Conducting from the Manhattan School of Music in 1976 and completed coursework at The Juilliard School and Columbia University. Born in New York City, his principal teachers and mentors were Dorothy Taubman, Artur Balsam, Victor Babin, Arthur Loesser and Robert Goldsand. He also studied chamber music performance with the late cellist Jascha Silberstein, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and cellist Bernard Greenhouse of the famed Beaux Arts Trio. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and the Screen Actors Guild. A well-known contemporary music performer, Mr. Pierce is a board member and official pianist of the American Festival of MicroTonal Music, Inc. He has been a judge for many piano competitions and has served on the Board of the International Fulbright Foundation.
He has received many awards, including multiple Heckscher Foundation Awards, the Fono Forum Award, awards from the Manhattan School of Music, the Victor Babin Award from the Cleveland Institute of Music and was a nominee for the 23rd International Franz Liszt Grand Prix du Disque Prize of Hungary. As a recording artist, Mr. Pierce has a long list of Grammy nominations to his credit, and has documented nearly 200 works on more than 55 CD's, including the complete piano concertos of Beethoven, Brahms and Liszt, and all of Gershwin's works for piano and orchestra. In addition, his other awards include the Heavy Metal Award, the IBLA International Competition for Contemporary Music Grand Prize, the Prieses der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik Award (German Music Critics Award), and the Best of 2000 Album from Jazzmania. His 55 CDs include solo, chamber, and works with orchestra on such labels as: MSR Classics, EMI Classics, Sony Classics, Helicon Recordings, Varese Sarabande, Carlton Classics, Mode Records and Wergo Recordings, etc. His work with the innovative American composer John Cage is legendary. In the future, he intends to perform more concerts and recordings.
