On the third Friday of every month, a spectacular fire show is held at Cairns Esplanade Foreshore to the north of the lagoon - and best of all, it is completely free to attend.

People staying in Cairns hotels in the run-up to Christmas who are keen to get a glimpse of this impressive sight should head down to the area on December 17th 2010.

The evening of free entertainment is scheduled to kick off at 19:00 local time and will last for around two hours, giving visitors plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the occasion.

These displays have become something of a staple of local life, with Cairns Regional Council commenting: "There is no better way to kick off the weekend [than] with the free entertainment provided down on the lagoon."

Cairns Esplanade has been a focal point for the community and travellers alike since the city was founded in the late 19th century and is home to a diverse array of restaurants, providing the perfect opportunity for people to grab a bite to eat after enjoying the fire display.
