A "great paradox" is examined in a new production of Carmen in Seville.

A representative from the venue pointed out that the main character is a liar, thief, prostitute and criminal, yet she is widely seen as a symbol of a free woman.

This new focus should give the performance added depth, both for those who have seen the show before and others who are viewing it for the first time.

Carmen, which was originally written by Georges Bizet but here has been adapted by Prosper Merimee, tells the story of a fiery gypsy who woos men with her beauty.

Performance times vary depending on the date, with admission costing between EUR4 (GBP3.50) and EUR21. Tickets are available online or at the box office.
