The Tewkesbury Medieval Festival will feature a re-enactment of a famous battle from the War of the Roses.
COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND, June 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People with an interest in medieval history are set to flock to accommodation in the Cotswolds later this summer.
The Tewkesbury Medieval Festival, taking place on July 10th and 11th this year, aims to give visitors an authentic taste of the past with a major battle re-enactment and other attractions.
Each summer, the Gloucestershire market town is decorated with colourful medieval banners in anticipation of the festival.
The event has been running for over 25 years and continues to attract thousands of visitors and battle re-enactors from around the country.
People attending this summer's festival will see approximately 2,000 "warriors" recreating the Battle of Tewkesbury, a major conflict of the War of the Roses which took place in May 1471.
Knights in full armour, gunners and archers with traditional English longbows will all be present as the battlefield comes alive once more.
A commentary will be provided to give visitors an insight into events as they unfold.
There will also be a mock trial and "beheading" of captured Lancastrians after the fighting.
Other attractions include a medieval market selling food and drink, archery competitions and guided walks around the site of the battle.
Admission to the festival is completely free, allowing families staying in the Cotswolds to experience the past without breaking the bank.
