Werther comes to Paris' Opera Bastille
The first run of Werther at Paris' Opera Bastille could be an enjoyable night out for visitors.
PARIS, FRANCE, January 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Opera fans staying in Paris hotels at the beginning of February have the opportunity to see a show during its run at the city's Opera Bastille.
This is the first time that Jules Massenet's Werther, in Benoit Jacquot's Covent Garden production, has come to the theatre and performers will take to the stage on February 1st and 4th.
According to What's On When, this is considered to be Massenet's most popular opera and it is based on Goethe's 1774 epistolary novel Die Leiden Des Jungen Werthers.
It was first premiered in Vienna in 1892 and this could be the perfect chance for fans of the art form to catch a modern production of the spectacle.
Conducted by Michel Plasson, this production stars Jonas Kaufmann and Sophie Koch.
It tells the story of Werther, a poet, who falls in love with Charlotte and the drama that unfolds when he begins to reveal his feelings to her though a copious number of letters.
The show starts at 19:30 local time and tickets cost between EUR5 (GBP4.49) and EUR172.
Other shows taking place at Opera Bastille in the coming months include the Nutcracker and Bejart Ballet Lausanne. Those who like opera may also be interested in seeing Idomeneo.
Commenting on Werther, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to Werther and who need hotel Paris to book early to avoid disappointment"
