Performing Arts Academy Offers Young Adults Performance Opportunities and Unique Collaborations
SAN PEDRO, CA, January 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A new performing arts school has opened in Muswell Hill, offering young people the chance to study drama, singing and dance in a fresh and different way. Wise Monkey Theatre School provides part time classes in all aspects of the performing arts via weekend and weeknight classes and multiple performance opportunities.
On 16 January, the school will begin its second term at the Fortismere School following a successful launch in September and registration for the new term is now open. For further details, parents can consult the school's website at www.wisemonkeytheatreschool.com.
Co-founded by North London locals Jacob Thomas and Steven Green, Wise Monkey Theatre School has a stimulating array of events and activities for learners of all ages. The combined weekend classes provide fun and challenging training for students aged 7 to 19 years and incorporates singing, movement/dancing and acting over three hours on Saturdays. An additional focus on specialized theatre arts such as mask, puppet and physical theatre rounds out the curriculum and Wise Monkey has links with numerous professional arts organizations.
Cheeky Monkey Beginner Classes for 4-6 year olds will begin after Easter. Developed with a view to establishing social, creative and vocal skills whilst nurturing self-confidence and belief, the class both delights and engages children with basic dance, drama, singing and performance games. A relaxing movement class runs concurrently for parents looking to unwind while their little ones learn.
For young adults aged 15-21, there is the Fourth Monkey Youth Theatre Company, aimed to deliver innovative and groundbreaking productions whilst offering the most rewarding performance opportunities. Fourth Monkey is currently embarking on auditions for their forthcoming production of Anthony Burgess' 'A Clockwork Orange' for both a London and Edinburgh Festival run this year. Auditions will take place on 14 January and those interested in trying out for the production can register via the Wise Monkey website. Additional opportunities include the Star Maker showcase event at Her Majesty's Theatre and the upcoming Lab10 performance laboratory. Such events are destined to be a regular fixture in the Wise Monkey calendar allowing the school to expand its educational links by working with other schools in North London and the South East, and in turn developing potential for further curriculum enrichment workshops and community projects.
Thomas and Green have a vast amount of experience producing quality youth productions and they look to continue their distinctive work with Wise Monkey Theatre School and their new Fourth Monkey banner. Having recently presented youth theatre projects in the West End and at the Edinburgh Festival, the Co-Directors' aim to continue to offer creative opportunities of a similar nature to their students and theatre company members, both locally and internationally over the coming years.
In the meantime, Wise Monkey's exciting second term will see the school ramp up a diverse slate of activities with guest artists, such as master classes with visiting theatre companies, film and television actors such as Holby City's Phoebe Thomas, and theatre practitioners from the U.S. Wise Monkey Theatre School's Patrons include film actress Clare-Hope Ashitey (Children of Men, Shooting Dogs) and television and radio personality Iain Lee.
